My "Joe Frank Origin Story": a Bay Area friend I visited in the mid-1980s played me Work In Progress (Pretender), and I was hooked - I ended up buying a stereo timer and 120-minute cassettes to ensure I'd have an uninterrupted recording of every show WBUR broadcast. And yup, I bought his book when it came out.

I provided a fair number of the music IDs for Richard Looney's FAQ many years ago before the existence of modern technology...
